KashFlow and IRIS Elements: The UK-Native Accounting Stack Worth Considering

IRIS owns KashFlow and has been integrating it into the broader IRIS Elements platform. Here is what this means for UK practices and small businesses in 2026.

KashFlow was once a popular standalone UK cloud accounting product, and since its acquisition by IRIS Software Group it has become part of the broader IRIS Elements ecosystem. For UK accountancy practices and small businesses, the combined IRIS stack offers an integrated journey from bookkeeping through to tax filing, payroll, accounts production and practice management all under one vendor. That integration is the value proposition and also the constraint.

What KashFlow does well

KashFlow remains a capable cloud bookkeeping product for UK micro-businesses, sole traders and small limited companies. The interface is straightforward, the VAT workflow is MTD-ready and the pricing sits below Xero and QuickBooks at the entry tier. For UK-only businesses with simple finances, it does the job.

  • UK-built and UK-focused: No need to navigate features designed for other jurisdictions.
  • Integrated payroll: Pairs naturally with IRIS payroll products.
  • Practice connectivity: Direct integration with IRIS Elements accounts production and tax modules for filing accounts at Companies House and HMRC.

IRIS Elements: the bigger picture

IRIS Elements is the cloud platform consolidating IRIS's traditional desktop tools (KashFlow, IRIS Accounts Production, IRIS Personal Tax) into a unified suite. For practices, this means a single client record carries through bookkeeping, year-end accounts and tax. For SME clients, the practical implication is smoother accountant-to-client collaboration when your accountant uses IRIS.

Where it falls short

Compared to Xero and QuickBooks, KashFlow's integrations ecosystem is narrower. Newer features such as AI-powered transaction categorisation and predictive cash flow are less mature. The mobile app experience is functional rather than best-in-class. For businesses planning multi-currency operations or complex e-commerce integrations, the product is a stretch.

MTD readiness

KashFlow is fully MTD-recognised for VAT and is on track for MTD ITSA. As part of the IRIS group, the platform benefits from the broader IRIS tax expertise across personal tax and corporation tax modules.
