Business Advisory
Strategic guidance to help you start, grow, and scale your business with financial clarity.
Service Overview
We act as the finance brain behind your business. Our business advisory service gives you cashflow forecasting, budgeting, and the financial forecasting and investor-ready models you need to make confident decisions and raise money.
Whether you are preparing for a seed or Series A round, applying to an accelerator, or simply want to understand your numbers, we build the forecasts, track the KPIs that matter, and help you turn data into growth.
Cashflow forecasting and budgeting
Most businesses that fail are profitable on paper but run out of cash. We build rolling cashflow forecasts that show your runway, flag tax and VAT payments before they bite, and let you plan hiring and investment with confidence. Paired with an annual budget, you always know whether you are ahead or behind plan, and why.
The forecasts that work are the ones that get used, which usually means simpler than you expect and updated monthly rather than rebuilt annually. Our guide to cashflow forecasting models that actually get used covers the approach.
Management accounts you can act on
Statutory accounts are filed months after the year they describe and are designed for Companies House, not for decisions. Monthly management accounts tell you what is happening while you can still change it: profit and loss against budget and prior year, balance sheet, cash and forecast, aged debtors, a short set of KPIs and, crucially, commentary explaining what moved.
They are also the first thing a lender, investor or buyer asks for. See our guide to why monthly management accounts win.
Investor-ready models and fundraising support
Raising money? We build the financial models investors expect, three-statement projections, unit economics and scenario analysis, and get your cap table and tax position in order. We also handle the SEIS/EIS advance assurance investors look for. Our guides to startup funding from pre-seed to Series B and the best UK startup accelerators are a good place to start, and funding your UK SME covers the options beyond equity.
KPIs and reporting
You cannot improve what you do not measure. We identify the handful of KPIs that actually drive your business, build them into clear monthly reporting, and review them with you so the numbers lead to action rather than filing. Our note on the five KPIs every owner-managed business should track is a sensible starting set.
What your business is worth, and how to raise it
Most owners have a number in mind and no basis for it. We prepare valuations for transactions, share schemes and planning, and, more usefully, work on the factors that actually move the multiple: owner dependence, customer concentration, recurring revenue, management depth and the quality of your records. Every one of those takes one to three years to change, which is why the conversation belongs well before a sale. See how much is your business worth.
Exit, succession and the long view
Whether you are selling, handing on to family, or simply want the option, the preparation is similar and it starts years out. We cover exit readiness, succession planning for family businesses, and the tax structuring that determines what you keep, including the Business Asset Disposal Relief conditions that must be satisfied for two years before a disposal.
How this fits together
Advisory only works on reliable numbers, so it sits on top of solid bookkeeping. For founders who want the whole thing as one package, our outsourced finance and virtual CFO service combines the back office with the advisory layer.
Frequently asked questions
Can you build a financial model for fundraising?
Yes, we build investor-ready financial models and cashflow forecasts, and prepare the SEIS/EIS advance assurance investors expect before a round.
Do you offer cashflow forecasting?
We produce rolling cashflow forecasts so you can see runway, plan for tax payments, and avoid cash crunches before they happen.
Do you help startups apply to accelerators?
We get your financials, cap table and tax position investor-ready so you put your best foot forward with accelerators and investors.
What are management accounts and do I need them?
A monthly internal pack showing performance against budget, cash and KPIs. If you are growing, borrowing, or margins are tight, they are the difference between managing and reporting.
Can you value my business?
Yes, for sales, share transfers, share schemes and planning. More usefully, we can also tell you which factors are suppressing the value and how long they take to fix.
How is this different from my year-end accounts?
Year-end accounts look backwards and satisfy Companies House and HMRC. Advisory looks forward and is there to change decisions while the outcome is still open.
We are not raising money. Is advisory still worth it?
Usually yes. The same forecasting and KPI work drives pricing, hiring and cash decisions, and it prepares you for a sale or funding round you may not be planning yet.
Do I need to be a certain size?
No, but you do need reliable bookkeeping underneath, because forecasts built on unreconciled ledgers are confidently wrong. We can provide both.
